This patient had athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the skin) between the toes. When this area gets contracted with bacterial infection, it can be serious.
In this case a minor infection from the area between the two toes has entered into the bottom of the foot and traveled toward the leg. This patient has circulation problem that required an urgent revascularization procedure otherwise would have led to compartment syndrome of the leg and a leg amputation.
